Former US congressman Adam Kinzinger on Thursday slammed the Georgian Dream government for summoning Ukrainian charge d’affaires Andrii Kasianov for explanations over his recent comments on possible evacuation of stranded Ukrainians from Georgia, if Russia resumed direct flights with Tbilisi.

“Curious when was the last time they summoned the ambassador of Russia, or even condemned Russia?  Hey Georgian Dream Party, you know Russia is losing right?” the politician tweeted.

Russia and Georgia have had their diplomatic ties suspended since the Russia-Georgia 2008 war, having no ambassadors.

The former congressman also called on the United National Movement opposition party – the largest opposition group – to focus on the future, instead of intra-party controversies, stressing the confrontation would lead to their failure.

Kasianov said earlier this week his office had plans to facilitate evacuations if the resumption of direct flights between Russia and Georgia  sparked “mass influx” of Russians and posed threats to the stranded Ukrainian citizens.
