Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, is facing charges of assaulting a police officer under the criminal Code, during a rally in Batumi, western Georgia, last week against halted EU integration.

Her lawyer, Juba Katamadze, confirmed to local media that Amaglobeli is opting to remain silent and will outline the defense’s position at the forthcoming court session.

Amaglobeli was initially detained during a protest at Batumi’s main police station under administrative law. She was released after approximately two hours, but shortly after her release, she was re-arrested at the same location, leading to the new criminal charges.
