A delegation comprising foreign ministers from the Baltic countries and Iceland is scheduled to visit Georgia on Wednesday to engage in discussions concerning ongoing developments and protests against the foreign transparency bill.
The foreign ministers of EU and NATO member states – Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, along with NATO member Iceland, will convene with key Georgian figures, including the President, Speaker of Parliament, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives from opposition parliamentary parties and civil society organizations.
A joint press conference featuring the foreign ministers of the Baltic states and Iceland alongside the President of Georgia is slated to take place in the morning of Wednesday, as per information disclosed on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. Expressing grave concerns, Georgia’s Western allies underscore their unease with the recent decision by the Georgian Dream party to reintroduce the agents’ law within the parliament.
Furthermore, foreign ministers from 12 EU nations, including the Baltic states, have penned an open letter addressed to Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, and Oliver Varhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement. They asserted that the European integration of Georgia is imperiled by recent legislative actions. Despite fervent protests and appeals from partner states to reconsider, the parliamentary majority of the Georgian Dream remains steadfast in its intent to proceed with the final, third reading of the law scheduled later today.
