French Ambassador to Georgia Diego Colas on Tuesday announced the end of his tenure in mid-October, in a social media post.

“The time to leave is close. I will end my term as Ambassador to Georgia mid October to take up my new position as Director of Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs in Paris”, said the diplomat.

The ambassador stated that he was “greatly honored and moved by this appointment”.

“I indeed have great fondness for this directorate where I served about half my career. Moreover, in these days of aggression and crimes, I believe that the battle for international law, European law, fundamental rights, and the Rule of Law is more than ever at the heart of our diplomacy”, said Colas.

Speaking about Georgia, the ambassador said that “It is also a moment for melancholy as I cannot leave without emotion Georgia the magnificent, its people and history, its cities, mountains and vineyards, and my extraordinary team with whom we went through so much”.
