French Minister for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad took to platform X to condemn what he described as the “authoritarian drift” of Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, calling it “unacceptable.”

The statement followed his participation in a coordination meeting initiated by British MP Stephen Doughty, focused on the situation in Georgia. “This trajectory runs counter to the European aspirations of the Georgian people, and we will not remain without a response,” Haddad added.

His remarks come amid growing international criticism of the Georgian government’s recent legislative and political moves, which several Western officials and institutions have characterized as repressive and incompatible with democratic norms.
