Kakha Gogolashvili, Senior Fellow and Director of European Studies at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, on Tuesday warned over Georgia’s path towards European Union membership. He emphasized that Georgia faced significant risks if it failed to meet the EU’s accession requirements, particularly in terms of national security and long-term stability.

“If we fulfill the EU’s requirements, we move forward towards joining the European Union; if not, we go in the opposite direction,” he asserted.

Gogolashvili highlighted the profound implications of non-compliance, citing potential repercussions for the country’s stability, investments, and international trust. “The future of Georgia is significantly threatened by both short-term risks and, critically, long-term challenges,” he noted.

The European Union Ambassador to Georgia on Tuesday confirmed that the process of Georgia’s accession to the bloc was currently suspended due to the moves by the country’s authorities.
