Natia Mezvrishvili, a leader of the Gakharia for Georgia opposition party, on Thursday accused the Central Election Commission (CEC), the Prosecutor’s Office, and the court of “conspiring to destroy crucial evidence” of alleged election fraud.

Speaking at a briefing, Mezvrishvili claimed that the list of verified voters and data from voting machines had been “taken hostage” in an “orchestrated effort” to obstruct transparency.

“The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed what we’ve been saying: the most important evidence of election fraud has been hidden. For 17 days, this evidence has been kept out of public reach, with the Prosecutor’s Office failing to investigate any serious election-related crime,” Mezvrishvili alleged.

She added as soon as her party requested access to the evidence on October 29, a “fake investigation” was launched on October 30, followed by the seizure of evidence by the Prosecutor’s Office on November 1.

A subsequent court filing by her party for the urgent protection of the evidence was dismissed, with the court citing its unavailability due to the Prosecutor’s Office’s actions.

Mezvrishvili accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of using state institutions to suppress evidence and secure “false legitimacy” for the election results. “The purpose of the GD is to use its obedient institutions to establish that the election was not rigged,” she said.
She further emphasized that her party would ensure the alleged attempts to destroy evidence become grounds for declaring the elections illegitimate. “We will do everything to expose this orchestrated effort as a sufficient basis for recognizing the falsified elections as illegitimate,” Mezvrishvili added.
