Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced the appointment of Givi Mikanadze as the country’s new Minister of Education, Science and Youth. The announcement was made during a briefing held at the Government Administration on June 30.

Kobakhidze praised Mikanadze’s extensive background in education and academia, highlighting his qualifications and broad professional experience in both the public and academic sectors.

“He holds deep academic knowledge, is a trained lawyer, a graduate of Tbilisi State University, and has furthered his studies at Essex University in the UK. He defended his doctoral thesis at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam,” the Prime Minister said.

Mikanadze has a long-standing career in education, having served as a lecturer at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as at various universities throughout Georgia. He is also the author of numerous books and scientific papers.

Until recently, Mikanadze served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth, a role Kobakhidze noted as directly relevant to his new ministerial duties.

“We believe he is the ideal candidate for this post, and I wish him great success in his new role,” Kobakhidze added.

The Prime Minister also confirmed the resignation of Alexander Tsuladze, the outgoing Minister of Education, thanking him for his service.

“Minister Alexander Tsuladze has decided to step down. I would like to thank him for his work — much has been accomplished during his tenure, as outlined in the recent public report. I wish him success in his future endeavors,” Kobakhidze concluded.
