A court in western Georgia has sentenced a former public school physical education teacher to 11 years in prison after finding him guilty of committing indecent acts against several underage students.
The Zugdidi District Court upheld evidence presented by prosecutors and convicted the defendant of multiple counts of committing indecent acts without violence against minors.
The Prosecutor’s Office said the man worked as a physical education teacher at a public school in the Zugdidi municipality. Between 2024 and 2025, he committed indecent acts against five students under the age of 14 and 16, abusing his position of trust, authority and influence.
The teacher was arrested by law enforcement officers on June 12, 2025. He was charged under Article 141 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns indecent acts committed by an adult against persons known to be under the age of 16 and 14, using a position of trust, authority or influence. The case involved eight separate episodes.
The Zugdidi District Court found the defendant guilty on all counts and sentenced him to 11 years in prison, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
