The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party MP Beka Davituliani said on Thursday that he was not informed why Georgia was not among the 40 signatories on Ukraine’s lawsuit against Russia for International Court of Justice.
However, the MP suggested that “considering the Ukrainian government’s attitude,” Kyiv could be against Georgia’s signing the suit.
“We are the country that was one of the first to sign the lawsuit initiated by Ukraine in the International Criminal Court. As for the recent suit, you said that there are 40 countries [that sign] while there are about 200 countries on earth and I don’t know why we are not among those 40. I have no information about this. I will find out. Maybe Ukraine didn’t want us to sign,” Davituliani told journalists.
The Georgian Dream officials and MP had accused several Ukrainian officials of backing the “radical opposition” in Georgia and raising “unfounded allegations” about the country over Tbilisi’s support to Russia to circumvent international sanctions.
