The ruling Georgian Dream party MP, former health minister David Sergeenko says that former president Mikheil Saakashvili needs a consultation of five doctors after he fainted in prison yesterday, on the 49th day of his hunger strike.

Sergeenko, who has consulted with Saakashvili’s doctors earlier today, said that if the treatment recommended by the five doctors will not be available in Gldani Prison No.18 hospital, Saakashvili will be transferred where the medical services will be present.

“First of all it was necessary for Saakashvili to consult with a neurologist and gastroenterologist.

“The neurologist had already visited Saakashvili last night, and it was also expected that he would be visited by a gastroenterologist,” Sergeenko said.

Saakashvili says that he is ready to stop his hunger strike if he is transferred to a civil clinic.

However, the government says that the transfer carries threats to his life and health and that the former president is receiving all necessary medical service in the prison hospital.
