Georgia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Geka Geladze, has visited police officers injured in an incident that took place on Wednesday in the village of Kheltubani, Gori Municipality of central Georgia.

The minister received updates from medical staff about the condition of the wounded officers and spoke directly with them at the hospital, wishing them a swift recovery, the ministry press office said.

Geladze was accompanied by First Deputy Minister Roland Meskhi and the Director of the Shida Kartli Police Department, Kakhaber Muradashvili.

The visit followed an incident in which several citizens allegedly attacked officers of the Shida Kartli Police Department while they were performing official duties. According to authorities, three police officers sustained stab wounds, while a fourth suffered facial injuries of varying severity.

“The officers were carrying out their duties in the village of Kheltubani when they were assaulted,” the MIA said in a statement.

Five individuals have been detained in connection with the attack. The case is being investigated under Part 2 of Article 353 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to violence against law enforcement officers.
