Georgian Interior Minister Geka Geladze on Sunday visited police officers injured during a protest in Tbilisi on Saturday, which escalated into violent incidents, authorities said.

During the visit, Geladze received updates from doctors on the officers’ medical conditions and thanked them for performing their duties.

“More than 30 police officers were injured during yesterday’s violent protest. Most have been discharged home with moderate injuries. Only two officers remained in medical care; their condition was serious yesterday, but today it is more stable. According to doctors, they are expected to recover soon,” Geladze said.

The Minister emphasised that law enforcement applied proportional force to maintain order and extended his gratitude to all officers involved.

“I want to assure the public that any violations of the law will face the strictest response. While a peaceful overthrow did not occur, I can confirm that the situation was peacefully resolved,” Geladze added.
