At a recent Prosecutorial Council meeting, Council member and prosecutor Shota Tkeshelashvili nominated Giorgi Gvarakidze, currently the First Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia, as a candidate for the position of Prosecutor General.
According to the Prosecutorial Council, a public interview with Gvarakidze will be held on June 18, after which Council members will vote on his candidacy. If the majority of the full Council supports him, he will be officially nominated and presented to the Parliament of Georgia.
Gvarakidze began his career in 2003 as a trainee prosecutor and has since held numerous key roles, including Chief Investigator at the Western Georgia District Prosecutor's Office, Deputy District Prosecutor of Adjara, Deputy Prosecutor of Kutaisi, and Prosecutor of Tbilisi. He also held senior roles in the Special Investigation Service.
The nomination process began on June 13. Under recent amendments to Georgia’s Organic Law on the Prosecutor’s Office, each Council member may nominate one candidate. A candidate is officially supported if they receive a majority of votes from the full Prosecutorial Council.
