General Inspection detains two individuals on drug-related charges

The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ General Inspection, in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office, has detained two individuals on drug-related charges following investigative and procedural operations, the body said on Saturday.
The detainees were identified as G.A., born in 1986, and G.R., born in 1961, an officer with the Imereti Police Department’s Vani District Division. They are accused of the illegal purchase, possession, and transfer of narcotic substances without the intent of material gain.
According to the investigation, G.A. illegally acquired a methadone-based substance and unlawfully transferred it to G.R., who in turn also possessed it illegally.
Searches conducted at their residences and on their persons resulted in the seizure of methadone-based narcotics.
The offense carries a penalty of up to 17 years in prison.
