According to the State Security Service, Gennady Bestaev, illegally detained by the Russian occupation forces on November 21, 2019, was detained in the so-called occupied Tskhinvali region. The court sentenced him to 3 years in prison.

"Illegal detentions are a serious consequence of the Russian occupation, which is aimed at putting pressure on the central government and creating fear and insecurity among the population.

Illegal arrests by the occupying forces will be strictly enforced by the central government at the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meeting scheduled for March 5 and the Geneva International Discussions.

"The occupation forces of the Russian Federation are fully responsible for the illegal deprivation of liberty for the citizens of Georgia and the illegal detentions for fictitious reasons." – said State Security Servis.
