Georgia has joined a joint statement of more than 50 countries at the United Nations, which was dedicated to the six-month anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on August 24, also coming with Ukraine’s Day of Independence.
With this statement, the members of the UN once again condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and called on Moscow to respect the rules of the UN and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“Today, we reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Ukraine, pay tribute to all those who have sacrificed their lives for the independence of Ukraine and express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims of the ongoing aggression against Ukraine”, the joint statement said.
“We reiterate our demand for the immediate cessation of hostilities by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, of all attacks directed against civilians and civilian infrastructure, and the full, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Russian forces and military equipment from the territory of Ukraine”, the statement added. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2021.
Hostilities have been in progress since then.
