Georgia confirms first case of monkeypox virus

Georgia confirmed the first case of monkeypox virus on Wednesday,  the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health said.

The agency stated that the patient’s condition was mild, he had already undergone a course of treatment and was discharged.

“Laboratory tests have confirmed one case of the monkeypox  virus. The patient had a mild form of viral disease and was discharged from a medical facility shortly after appropriate treatment. He  contracted the virus while traveling in Europe. Contacts have been checked and observed,  but no clinical signs were detected in any of the cases,” said the agency.

“The National Center for Disease Control and Public Health will continue to investigate suspicious cases if necessary,” the agency added.

The virus, which was earlier localized in Africa, was detected in dozens of European states this year.
