The fact that Georgia “can not help Ukraine with weapons” prevents a risk of a new conflict [with Russia], the country’s Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze said in the state legislature on Thursday.
He suggested that Georgia’s relations with NATO “are further upgrading.”
“I want to tell you that our relations with NATO are becoming more intense every year. I have personally participated in the NATO Defense Ministerial four times.
“Consequently, the reports that not supplying weapons to Ukraine distances Georgia from the international community are wrong,” Burchuladze said.
He stated that “preventing the risks of conflicts is in the interests of the Georgian people.”
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin hosted 40 countries for the first time in late April at the US Air Force base in Ramstein, Germany, to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Georgia was not among those countries.
Later, the partners gathered at the American base in May, where Georgia was still absent.
The Ministry of Defense explained that non-participation in the meetings was explained by the fact that Georgia’s role was limited to “strong political and humanitarian support for Ukraine.”
