Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who is paying his first official visit to Croatia, on Monday said his country was expecting a “fair” and a “strategic” decision from the EU on his country’s EU candidacy in December.
In a press briefing with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenković, Garibashvili claimed the current Georgian Dream authorities had ensured “all genuine” changes on Georgia’s EU path over the past decade, including the Association Agreement, a free trade and a visa free deal with the bloc.
He also described Georgia as one of the “biggest contributors” to international peace and security, EU’s “most reliable ally” in the South Caucasus region, and said the country’s progress had been recognised in international rankings.
Plenković, for his part, welcomed the Georgian PM’s first visit in the last 30 years, ahead of the launch of the Georgian embassy in Zagreb, and pledged his Government’s support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
He also said the occupation of Georgian territories by Russia put the country’s in a “sensitive condition”.
