Georgia-Germany sign migration agreement

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, on Tuesday convened with the Federal Minister of Internal Affairs of Germany,Nancy Faeser , in Tbilisi , where parties signed an agreement on migration and mobility between the states.
The primary focus of this agreement is to enhance collaboration between Georgia and Germany in the realms of labor migration and education. Notably, there will be increased implementation of educational and internship programs catering to Georgian students and researchers. Furthermore, the agreement underscores a commitment to intensify efforts against illegal migration. This involves strengthening cooperation to ensure the readmission and reintegration of Georgian citizens who violate the visa-free travel regulations.
The discussions between the two parties extended to future cooperation, particularly in combatting illegal migration and organized crime, the Georgian MInistry press office said.
Minister Gomelauri emphasized the significance of Germany designating Georgia as a safe country of origin. He underscored that this decision by the German government underscores Georgia’s commitment to democracy, with its state bodies effectively safeguarding human rights.
The German delegation commended Georgia’s successful implementation of the readmission agreement with the European Union. Positive evaluations were also given to Georgia’s measures in response to challenges related to visa-free travel with the European Union.
In conclusion, both parties expressed optimism that the collaboration between the two states will further intensify in the near future, propelled by the aforementioned agreement.
Additionally, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, engaged in discussions with the visiting official. The talks covered existing relations and prospects for cooperation between Georgia and Germany.
The PM acknowledged the crucial role played by Germany in supporting Georgia’s candidacy status. Special appreciation was extended to the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, for his exceptional support.
The meeting delved into the significance of the recently signed agreement on migration and mobility, emphasizing its role in strengthening cooperation in the areas of labor migration and education between Georgia and Germany. Discussions also touched upon cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and German law enforcement agencies, emphasizing the foundation of this collaboration on international agreements, partnership principles, and mutual trust.
