Georgia on Monday hosted Ukrainian children from the war-torn southern city of Mykolaiv for a ten-day tour, which will involve entertainment, recreation and sport activities, as part of the solidarity initiative funded by Tbilisi City Hall and organised by it with the country’s parliament.
The group will be based at the Academy of Dinamo Tbilisi football club for two weeks.
Archil Talakvadze, the vice parliament speaker of Georgia stressed “expressing support for Ukraine is very important for the Georgian authorities”.
After welcoming the guests at Tbilisi international airport, he said the children would be able to spend the New Year period in a “safe and calm environment”.
Russia invaded Ukraine in late February.
