Georgia has launched the mass use of Paxlovid, an antiviral medication for the treatment of coronavirus, head of the National Center for Disease Control of Georgia  Amiran Gamkrelidze said on Thursday.

“As you know, in the country we have the antiviral medicine Paxlovid, which is prescribed to patients in outpatient conditions, it has quite a good effect. For those who take the five-day course, their need for hospitalization and resuscitation decreases. As you know, we have conducted a lot of training for doctors, both online and clinic doctors. A doctor determines the need for the medication,” Gamkrelidze said,

He stated that registration for the third dose and the second booster against Coronavirus is increasing in Georgia, especially in the population over 50.

“However, 600 injections per day is a drop in the ocean, we need much more,”  Gamkrelidze stated.

Gamkrelidze  suggested that the rate of  spread of coronavirus has decreased in Georgia over the past several days.
