Georgia may not be able to use 400,000 doses of the German-US Pfizer coronavirus vaccine due to a low demand, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated today.
He said that the data of the vaccine, which Georgia had received via donors, expires this month.
Gamkrelidze stated that the country will receive a new batch of the vaccine in the coming weeks and the vaccination process is expected to continue in April and May.
“It is unfortunate that we have one of the best vaccines and the demand is so low. If vaccinations have gone at this rate, there is a risk that the vaccine remains untapped. As you know, we had two million doses of Pfizer in the country, a million of them were bought by the state, and the rest came through donations,” Gamkrelidze said.
Georgia has reported 1,970 new Covid-19 cases, 7,294 recoveries, and 29 deaths in the past 24 hours.
1,352,561 individuals have gotten at least one shot of any vaccine in the country so far, while 1,250,026 people have been fully inoculated, amounting to 43.5 percent of the country’s adult population.
