Georgia has been officially moved to the list of former members of the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR).

The decision follows the suspension of the Georgian National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) from the EQAR register in December 2024. The suspension raised concerns among education experts and stakeholders about the credibility and transparency of Georgia’s quality assurance mechanisms in higher education.

At the time, the acting director of the NCEQE, Lasha Margishvili, announced on December 21 that the centre intended to appeal the decision, noting that they were given a 20-day deadline to submit their case.

EQAR registration is widely regarded as a hallmark of compliance with the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) for quality assurance in higher education.
