The Georgian Interior Ministry on Tuesday said it planned to tighten security measures and install special barriers following the explosion in the country’s western city of Batumi on Monday, that reportedly was a naval mine, linked with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The body said its coast guard employees were gradually monitoring the sea surrounding Batumi and Poti and the coastline from Anaklia to Sarpi, and that it planned informative meetings with local fishermen, organizations involved in shipping and transport activities, and local self-government representatives.

The explosion was reported at about  18:00 p.m. Police are looking into the incident.
