Georgia has received 250,000 doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, while up to 400,000 doses of the same vaccine expired at the end of March as people refused to get the shot.

The vaccination process with the German-US vaccine, which is dubbed as one of the best on the market, will be renewed in the coming days, Georgian health officials stated, expressing hope that people will at least receive the booster dose of the vaccine to prevent complications caused by the virus.

Georgia has ordered a million doses of the vaccine which will gradually enter the country.

The Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus is the only vaccine available to the population of Georgia which is recognized by EU countries.

At this stage, registration and vaccination is possible only with two types of Chinese-made vaccines – Sinopharm and Sinovak.

As of April 5, a total of 2,862,482 individuals were vaccinated in  Georgia.

1,257,404 out of the 2,862,482 over the age of 18 have been fully vaccinated, while 239,892 have been “boosted.”

Georgian health officials still hope that by mid-summer 70 percent of the country’s adult population will be fully vaccinated.

As of today a bit more than 43 percent of the country’s adult population are fully inoculated.
