Georgia reports 24 cases of new Omicron strain of coronavirus

Georgia has reported 24 cases of a new strain of coronavirus dubbed as Omicron, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today. 

The variant was first detected in South Africa in November and is spreading rapidly worldwide.  

Georgia has reported 2,739 new cases of coronavirus, 3,072 recoveries and 52 deaths over the last 24 hours. 

New cases for Tbilisi and regions are as follows:

Tbilisi – 1,246 cases

Imereti – 437 cases

Kakheti – 147 cases

Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 184 cases

Kvemo Kartli – 120 cases

Shida Kartli –174 cases

Adjara – 204 cases

Guria – 99 cases

Samtskhe-Javakheti – 50 cases

Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 66 cases

Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 12 cases
