Georgia’s continued EU integration hinges on its political elite – Ambassador Herczynski

Pawel Herczynski, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, on Friday asserted the country’s further integration into the EU “hinges primarily on its political elite rather than Brussels”. 

Highlighting the significance of meeting the nine conditions outlined by the bloc last year for opening accession talks with Tbilisi, the diplomat reiterated the necessity for an “inclusive” process, involving domestic political players and the civil sector.

The ambassador also expressed optimism regarding the willingness of Irakli Kobakhidze, the ruling Georgian Dream candidate for the prime minister’s post, to collaborate and cooperate with the EU to advance Georgia’s integration process.

He also reassured that the EU stood ready to collaborate with “any government of Georgia” and expressed a desire for “at least as successful cooperation” with the incoming PM and his Cabinet as with their predecessors.
