In anticipation of the upcoming October 26 general elections, Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) on Wednesday announced it would launch an extensive voter education initiative aimed at familiarizing the electorate with new election technologies.
Scheduled to commence on July 6, the CEC’s “General Demonstration of Electronic Elections” project seeks to inform voters across 64 municipalities about the implementation of advanced election technologies. The initiative includes practical demonstrations where participants will interact with verification and vote counting machines, simulate voting procedures under official supervision, and receive detailed explanations about the use of electronic voting systems piloted in Georgia.
Registrations for participation are open to all interested individuals, who are required to sign up electronically through the designated link, choosing their preferred date and time slot starting from June 26.
Comprehensive instructions and further details are available on the CEC’s official website and social media platforms, with assistance provided via a dedicated helpline.
The project, which will run until July 28,, will take place every weekend from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at 89 designated locations across administrative centers in Tbilisi and regions. The CEC encouraged both new and returning participants to engage in these sessions, emphasizing the importance of understanding the updated voting procedures and ensuring transparency in future elections.
This proactive approach by the CEC aligns with Georgia’s electoral reforms, which mandate the adoption of electronic voting technologies in all upcoming parliamentary elections. With nearly 90 percent of voters expected to utilize these technologies, the CEC’s initiative underscores its commitment to preparing the electorate for the transition to modernized electoral processes.
As part of its comprehensive information campaign, the CEC has already conducted over 3,000 public demonstrations, reaching approximately 400,000 voters nationwide, the election administration said.
