The Georgian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday dismissed recent media claims regarding the resignation of David Zalkaliani, the country’s Ambassador to the United States, labeling them as “fake news.”

In an official statement, the Ministry emphasized the reports were “unfounded”.

The rumors originated from the opposition-leaning Mtavari channel, which alleged that Zalkaliani had stepped down due to a confrontation with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

This purported conflict was said to stem from the withdrawal of an invitation for the PM to attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden during the ongoing 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
