Georgia’s Independence Day is celebrated on Freedom Square

Today is Georgia's Independence Day. The main event dedicated to the national holiday of the country will be traditionally held at Freedom Square in the capital. 247 recruits will take the military oath in front of the God and the nation and will become a full member of the Georgian Defense Forces from today.
In parallel with Tbilisi, the swearing-in ceremony will be held in 5 locations in different regions of Georgia: in Svaneti – near Ushba and Tetnuldi slopes, in Adjara – near Petra Fortress, in Samtskhe-Javakheti – near Paravani Lake, in Kakheti – Nekresi Monastery Complex and the holy city of Mtskheta. The Commander of the Defense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili will deliver a report to the President of Georgia, Supreme Commander of the Defense Forces Salome Zurabishvili regarding the taking of the military oath. Boxes of Georgian Defense Forces commands and military training units, as well as a box of US Army and Marine instructors will be presented in boxes on Freedom Square. The invited guests especially welcome the Georgian soldiers who have just completed their "strong support" mission in Afghanistan and returned to their homeland a week ago.
The celebration of the national holiday will begin with the raising of the Georgian state flag on Freedom Square, which will be brought by the servicemen of the National Guard Ritual Squadron. Nato Metonidze will perform the Georgian national anthem with the Zakaria Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Theater troupe, after which he will observe a minute of silence in memory of the fighters who died fighting for Georgia's independence and territorial integrity, as well as participating in international missions. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava, Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze and Polish President Andrzej Duda, who arrived in Georgia for this day, will congratulate Georgia on Independence Day.
The newly enlisted servicemen of the Georgian Defense Forces will meet on May 26 this year – for the first time after taking the oath, they will unanimously express their beliefs as a soldier. At the end of the event, newly modernized Su-25 fighter jets belonging to the Defense Forces will fly over the Freedom Square on the background of the performance of "Chakrulo" by the ensembles "Rustavi" and "Basiani" and will congratulate the citizens on Independence Day. Su-25 fighter jets will also fly over Kutaisi and Batumi and congratulate the population on the national holiday here by launching a smoke in the red and white colors of the Georgian flag. The modernized Su-25 fighter jets were overhauled in joint cooperation with Tam JSC Tbilaviamsheni and SSTC Delta. The aircraft repairs were carried out with the involvement and supervision of the Aviation and Air Defense Command of the Ministry of Defense. Georgian armored vehicles "Didgori Warrior", "Didgori Medevak" "Didgori 3" produced by Delta "will be presented at Freedom Square, which by the decision of the Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili was the first to be transferred to the units of the Defense Forces last fall. A case where the Defense Forces were equipped with locally produced armored vehicles. Foreign armored personnel carriers "Hammer", MaxPro, "Wolf" and artillery units – "Dana", salvo fire jet system "Lar-160", anti-aircraft machine "Atlas", armored vehicles will also be exhibited at Freedom Square.
