The National Bank of Georgia on Wednesday reported a meeting between Acting President Natia Turnava and Zhou Qian, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia, with the discussions centered on “enhancing cooperation in payment systems” and “diversifying operational frameworks” between the two nations.

In the official statement, NBG emphasized the importance of the collaboration between Georgia and China, noting that the meeting focused on activating future cooperation in the realms of payment systems and financial services.

Turnava expressed the intent to “speed up the processes,” indicating that bank representatives would conduct future meetings with officials from the Central Bank of China.

The strategic partnership between Georgia and China was officially established on July 31, 2023, amidst worsening ties between the Government of Georgia and the West.
