Tina Bokuchava, chair of the United National Movement opposition party, on Monday asserted at a briefing that the strategic interests of Donald Trump and Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and the honorary chair of the Georgian Dream ruling party, were fundamentally opposed.
She claimed Ivanishvili was aligned with Russia, while Trump championed the united efforts of the United States, the West, and Ukraine.
“It is possible to restore relations not by changing the government in America, but by changing the government in Georgia and replacing Ivanishvili’s government with a pro-Western, pro-American coalition government,” Bokuchava said.
She emphasized her belief that the Georgian people would make an informed decision in the October 26 elections, rejecting the “propaganda disseminated by Ivanishvili and his media channels”.
“I am sure that together we will bring the necessary changes for the country and restore our relations with strategic partners. We will return our country to the path of Euro-Atlantic integration for the benefit of our country and every citizen,” she concluded.
