Georgia’s Parliament Speaker: donors, by promoting political extremism, normalize terror

Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, on Tuesday accused foreign donors of alleged normalizing terror by supporting politically extreme organizations. In a social media post, Papuashvili claimed that the recent incidents involving “angry citizens” for the adoption of the foreign agents’ law, were not spontaneous protests but rather organized and politically motivated terror campaigns carried out in the name of Europe.

“Just in the last few days, the employees of three non-governmental organizations financed from the EU budget have engaged in the following actions:Levan Datunashvili of Jam News threatened members of parliament with ‘a bullet in the head.’Salome Nikolaishvili and Zuka Berdzenishvili of the Shame Movement called members of parliament with threats and insults.Mariam Tsitsikashvili of GRASS/ Factcheck attacked and insulted a member of parliament and their family in a public space”, he said. 

The official on Monday claimed the country’s population would have the “easiest” general elections on October 26, as they will have to make a choice between the ruling power, which he claimed had saved the country from the war and “collective traitors”, in reference to opposition groups.
