Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday held a meeting with Bettina Boughani, the recently appointed head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, to discuss matters concerning the security, human rights, and humanitarian situation in the occupied regions of Georgia.

During the meeting, Kobakhidze emphasized the “crucial role” played by the EU monitoring mission in implementing the ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, as well as in facilitating peaceful conflict resolution and preventing escalation.

Acknowledging the importance of utilizing all available resources to ensure the mission’s effective operation, the Prime Minister affirmed the Government of Georgia’s “steadfast commitment” to collaborating closely with the EUMM, recognizing it as the sole international mechanism operating on the ground.

Furthermore, Kobakhidze expressed appreciation for the extension of the mission’s mandate until December 2024, underscoring the ongoing dedication to fostering stability and progress in the region.
