Levan Ioseliani, the Public Defender of Georgia, on Monday held a meeting with Robin Dunnigan, the US Ambassador to Georgia, to discuss human rights amid ongoing protests against the Government’s decision last month to halt the EU accession until 2028.

During the meeting, Ioseliani provided an update on recent developments and the activities of his office. He highlighted ongoing efforts, including visits to temporary detention centers and clinics where protesters are being held. The Public Defender also discussed the collection of materials for investigation, which have been forwarded to the Special Investigation Service, and stressed the importance of addressing cases of mistreatment by law enforcement officers.

Ambassador Dunnigan expressed gratitude for Ioseliani’s work under emergency conditions and commended the efforts of the Public Defender’s Office in promoting human rights protection in Georgia, the Ombudsman’s press office said.
