The Georgian State Security Service on Thursday said its employees had arrested Tsiskara Tokhosashvili, a member of the terrorist organisation Islamic State, at Tbilisi International Airport.

The body said the suspect was facing 10 to 17 years in prison for joining a foreign terrorism organisation and aiding in terrorist activities.

It said Tokhosashvili left Georgia and joined the terrorist group in 2015 and participated in its operations under the name of Emir Isa, noting he was an “influencial figure” and headed one of the ISIS units for some time.

The GSSS said his brother, Tsezar Tokhosashvili, was now serving his sentence on terrorism charges, after his arrest in 2019.

He also joined ISIS in 2015 and was arrested in Kyiv, Ukraine, in a joint special operation.
