Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday said his Government would not provide weapons for Ukraine, during the ongoing conflict with Russia, as it would be an involvement in the war.

“We have made it clear that we will not provide arms”, Garibashvili told the media and reiterated his Government had ensured “more humanitarian aid” for Ukraine than 189 foreign states and expressed support for the country “in all international platforms”.

The PM also said his words over the volunteers in Ukraine, that they were brought there by the “radical” United National Movement opposition party, were “misinterpreted” and stressed “a group of volunteers, like Mamuka Mamulashvili, are really affiliated with the party, while there are others fighting due to their idealistic attitudes”.

He claimed his government was doing its best to repatriate killed volunteers and bury them with military honors.

“Their death is a big tragedy and we all feel it”, he said.

Thirty-three Georgian volunteers have been killed in Ukraine since March 18.
