Georgian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers discuss strategic partnership, regional cooperation

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili met with her Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, who is on an official visit to Tbilisi. According to Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two officials discussed the strategic partnership between the countries and key issues of regional cooperation.

The meeting highlighted the positive dynamics of the political dialogue between Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as progress in trade, economic, and investment collaboration. Both sides emphasized the potential for further deepening cooperation.

Particular attention was given to joint efforts in implementing infrastructure and energy projects of regional significance. Discussions covered the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the planned Black Sea underwater electricity transmission cable, and the development of the Green Energy Corridor. Officials underscored the growing importance of transit and logistics projects in the context of developing the Middle Corridor as a strategic route.

Regarding current regional developments, the ministers reaffirmed the importance of long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

The two sides positively assessed the Georgia-hosted trilateral meeting held on April 17 between the deputy foreign ministers of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. The gathering reaffirmed Georgia’s readiness to facilitate constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation in the region and promote the definition of common interests.

The ministers also discussed the trilateral strategic cooperation between Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. They noted its key role in promoting regional stability, prosperity, and the implementation of major strategic projects.

Lastly, the two ministers reviewed prospects for broader cooperation with Central Asian countries and the potential for further development of the Middle Corridor. Both Georgia and Azerbaijan expressed readiness to deepen political dialogue, business ties, and people-to-people connections.
