Georgian, Armenian Defence Ministers discuss regional security, Tbilisi’s mediation between Yerevan-Baku

Georgian and Armenian Defence Ministers on Friday discussed security in the South Caucasus region and Tbilisi’s intention to mediate for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia to help resolve their long-running conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. 

 

The topics were discussed as part of Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze’s official visit to the country and after a face-to-face meeting with his counterpart Suren Papikian, the Defence Ministry press office said. 

 

Burchuladze noted  through the peaceful neighborhood initiative, Georgia was ready to continue promoting the peace process in the region. 

 

The parties discussed current and future cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence and signed a mutual cooperation plan between their bodies, the press office added.
