The Georgian and Armenian prime ministers on Thursday signed a deal in Yerevan that allows the citizens of the two countries to  cross the border with the use of ID cards, the Georgian government press office said.

The deal was signed following the 12th meeting of the Georgia-Armenia intergovernmental economic commission, chaired by the top officials.

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili welcomed the 70 percent increase in trade turnover between the two countries last year and said Armenia had ranked the country’s sixth largest trade partner.

While discussing the prospect for closer economic cooperation, the officials stressed the importance of peace in the region, the government press office said.
