Georgia has completed the first part of the questionnaire which was handed by the EU on April 11 after the country officially applied for the membership to the bloc on March 3, along with Ukraine and Moldova.

The compelled portion will be submitted to the European Commission on Monday, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said today.

He stated that the remaining portion of the questionnaire on sectoral issues, containing  technical and specific topics with about 2,300 questions, is being completed “with the involvement of all relevant state agencies.”

“May 13 is the deadline to present answers to the questions,” Darchiashvili said, noting that similar to the first part of the questionnaire, the government will also make the sectoral part public today.

The FM claimed that the Georgian authorities had ensured “maximal efforts”’ to fill the first part of the document which was a “huge work,” pledging that the remaining portion would be submitted in a timely manner.

Ukraine and Moldova have already submitted the completed questionnaire which is mandatory for the EU to decide whether or not to grant a candidate country status to an applicant country.

Ukraine was the first to apply for EU membership in an accelerated manner shortly after Russia invaded the country in February.

Georgia had plans to apply for EU membership  by 2024. However, Russia’s war in Ukraine has accelerated the process.
