Keti Leshkasheli, a 28-year-old Georgian military doctor aiding Ukrainian servicemembers in their fight against Russian troops, has been awarded the Cross of Combat Merit by the Ukrainian Government, the highest award of the country’s Insurgent Army.

Leshkasheli, who has been engaged in hostilities since the outbreak of conflict last year, herself posted the news on her social media account on Friday.

The award is generally handed for distinguished services to the state and people of the Ukrainian army.

More than 50 Georgian volunteers have been killed in Ukraine by Russian troops since March 2022, with about 1,500 fighting against Russian occupying forces.
