Former US Congressman Adam Kinzinger on Tuesday tweeted the current Georgian Dream authorities were “no longer hiding their Putism”, calling for sanctions against the party founder Bidzina Ivanishvili and “others”.

In his social media post, Kinzinger claimed Ivanishvili – labeled as a shadow  ruler of the country by the part of domestic opposition groups – and his entourage had led the country “on a path to failure”.

The comment came following the latest claims by Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili at the Bratislava Global Security Forum, where he said Ukraine’s NATO aspirations had led to its ongoing invasion by Russia.

“For Garibashvili to say this he is under the influence of someone.. and it is not the Georgian people”, Kinzinger said.
