Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday said the country would sign a declaration on the establishment of a high-level dialogue with Italy later today, as part of his visit to the country.

He said the new format of the high-level dialogue would include several important directions, defense and security, political direction, trade-economic and cultural-educational among them.

“Together with my Italian colleague, a new platform for strategic dialogue will be signed, which includes several important directions. This format will strengthen and bring a new impetus to the bilateral relations between Italy and Georgia,” said Darchiashvili.

While evaluating the ongoing visit to Italy, Darchiashvili also drew attention to the importance of Italy’s support for Georgia’s European integration ahead of the bloc’s decision whether to grant Georgia its membership candidate status by the end of this year.
