Georgian FM discusses country’s EU integration prospects with German counterpart in New York

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili has discussed his country’s European integration prospects, ahead of the bloc’s forthcoming decision on Georgia’s candidacy, with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock in New York, as part of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia reported on Monday. 

 

“Darchiashvili has briefed Baerbock about the efforts made by Georgia in terms of fulfilling the recommendations of the European Commission to obtain the candidate status [later this year] and expressed hope that Georgia’s progress and reforms implemented in various directions will be properly recognized”, the body said. 

 

The discussion also reviewed bilateral cooperation and “close partnership” between the two states, the Foreign Office added.
