The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, on Wednesday hosted Javier Colomina, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, with the discussion focused on priority issues related to NATO-Georgia political and practical cooperation, the Georgian foreign office said.

The meeting highlighted a positive assessment of the dynamic and content-rich agenda throughout the current year. Of particular significance was the acknowledgment of the “historic decision” by the European Union to grant Georgia its candidacy this month, seen as an “important step” for Georgia’s NATO accession process, the press office added.

Both parties delved into the regional security landscape, with Colomina reiterating NATO’s “steadfast support” for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. The forthcoming NATO Washington Summit in 2024 was also on the agenda.
