The National Food Agency of Georgia on Thursday announced it had temporarily stopped the production process of Nikora ready meals after several individuals were poisoned and confirmed to have salmonellosis after eating the food served in the market chain.
The agency said the domestic production had been suspended until the “eradication” of problems, adding its employees had seized the contaminated food.
Nikora claimed it had followed “all instructions” of the agency after being notified.
“We have identified the reasons and tracked down the Graco chicken filet, which was used in the production of cutlets, and the latter was supplied to us by the company Geo Distribution. Of course, we informed the said company about the incident and immediately removed that particular batch from consumption”, said the company.
It also added that due to the small size of the ready-to-eat enterprise, the contaminated product had been supplied to “only a few branches”, and “fortunately, the scale of the problem is very small”.
