Georgian Foreign Ministry condemns Russian parliament speaker visit to de facto Abkhazia

The Georgian Foreign Ministry on Friday condemned the visit of Vyacheslav Volodin, the Duma speaker of Russia, to the breakaway Abkhazia region on Thursday. 

“This fact represents another gross violation of the fundamental principles and norms of international law on the part of Moscow.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia strongly condemns the visit to the occupied region of Abkhazia by violating the state border of Georgia, which is another gross violation by Moscow of the fundamental principles and norms of international law, the continuation of the policy of violating the territorial integrity of the sovereign state and international obligations, including, it is another fact of neglecting the agreement on the ceasefire concluded on August 12, 2008 with the mediation of the European Union”, the statement said. 

While in Abkhazia, the Russian official signed an agreement with the de facto parliament of Georgia and pledged a new meeting in the coming days.
